Ping Announces Open Source Toolkit for WS-Federation Integration with Apache
New Toolkit Extends Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Providing Web SSO for Apache Applications Written in Java and Other Languages
Denver, CO - December 6, 2005
Concurrent with the announcement of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 featuring Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Ping Identity Corporation (www.pingidentity.com) today announced SourceID WS-Federation for Apache 2.0 Toolkit, an open source module that extends ADFS and WS-Federation to provide Web single sign-on (SSO) for Apache Web applications written in Java, Perl and PHP. The new toolkit will be available for free download from SourceID (www.sourceid.org) on December 15, 2005.
The SourceID WS-Federation for Apache 2.0 Toolkit "stands guard" over protected Apache applications, granting access to users with proper identity credentials. When an unauthenticated user attempts to access one of these resources, it initiates the WS-Federation Passive Requestor Interoperability Profile with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 to provide SSO access to the target application.
In addition to the release of SourceID WS-Federation for Apache 2.0 Toolkit, Ping also announced that PingFederate v3.1 will include enhanced support for WS-Federation along with its existing support for SAML 2.0 in Q2 2006. PingFederate v3.1 will provide the ability for a single PingFederate server to connect with multiple partners running ADFS or SAML 2.0. PingFederate's extended features include local identity and attribute mapping, use case-driven configuration, out-of-the-box integration and an enterprise deployment architecture that extends WS-Federation to support all non-Microsoft environments.
"Identity federation is critical for customers to securely share information in today's expanding enterprise environments," said Jeff Price, Senior Director in the Windows Server Division at Microsoft. "We are excited to see Ping announcing and shipping new products that support our federated identity initiative."
"Microsoft's introduction of Active Directory Federation Services is a major milestone in the history of identity federation," said Andre Durand, CEO of Ping Identity. "In a single move, they have made federated identity mainstream technology for large and small organizations worldwide."
